Mystic Christian?

Mystic can be an uncomfortable adjective, but I believe true Christianity is inescapably mystical, since we pray to and love and are led by an invisible God who blesses our invisible spirits.  This means the term ‘mystic christian’ is redundant.

Following God in earnest may be uncomfortably mystical for some people at some points in history or at some points in each of our individual lives.  God is all-powerful and does not live to satisfy our comforts or abide by the imperfect theologies or limiting preconceptions we may have about His universe.  God does not contradict Himself or His Scripture, but He is complex, creative and has a lot of latitude.

I believe in the sincere pursuit of truth by every individual, combining sound hermaneutics and orthodoxy (free from empty traditions of men) with the willingness to follow God’s Spirit wherever He leads.  God leads each of us on individual journeys — we cannot co-opt the life experiences of any other human being.  No human has experienced all that God has to offer — all that He wants to share in love with His people.  We have our own lives to live, and God has unique life experiences and perspectives He wants to show to each of us.

So let us grow as individuals who come together to help one another along the way, and as the body of Christ as we attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.  (Eph 4:13)

Paul’s Instruction for Our Focus

What deserves our attention in this life?  I believe it is good to gain wisdom and understanding about spiritual realities, because from those realities flow consequences into our daily lives.

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” – Colossians 3:1-3

Let us set our hearts and minds on things above!
